I don’t know about you but there are times when I don’t know what wallpaper I should use on my desktop. Other times, well I’m just lazy to change it manually even though changing it is effortless.

Desktoptopia and DeskLickr have a common feature and that is to randomize your desktop wallpaper according to the timeframe you have in place, say once a day or once every 10 days. It solves the problem(s) mentioned above.

Are both applications the same then? The answer is a definite “NO!”

Desktoptopia cost $20 but you can try it for 10 days. It’s selling point is the fact that every wallpaper you will see eventually are of excellent quality as they are contributed by well known designers, illustrators or photographers. You can be assured that the wallpaper will look good but whether you like it is another issue.

Here are some examples:

Some of you might not think Desktoptopia is worth paying for and $20 is a considerable amount of money. Is there a free alternative? Yes and No..

DeskLickr is a free application which is similar in which it randomizes you wallpaper but they are photos from Flickr members. Not exactly designer stuff but you get what you pay for.

Personally, DeskLickr is great but I find Desktoptopia to be worth every penny!
