Backing Up iTunes Purchases For Free

iTunes 7 provides a quick an easy way to backup all your purchased content onto a CD/DVD. Backing up onto multiple pieces of blank CD-R isn’t exactly a good idea as it requires too much time and resource. As for DVD-R, it’s good if your Mac has a superdrive or an external DVD writer.

What other option does one have? .Mac’s Backup? Well, that’ll work only if you currently own a .Mac subscription which cost US$99.95 per annum.

At this point, you might be thinking of putting your money down on an external DVD writer or a .Mac account but wait, not everything cost money you know?

Having bought a considerable amount of content from the iTunes store, I was looking for an alternative to back them up. I did some research and came across this excellent automator workflow over at Automator World.
Quick Backup consist of four small workflows for backing up files to a hard drive or optical media.

Burn-It
Burn a file or folder to a CD/DVD from the Finder in a click without having to create a burn folder.

Quick iTMS Backup
Automator created workflow to create a really quick backup of all your iTunes Music Store content onto a data CD/DVD.

Quick File Backup
Automator created workflow to create a really quick backup of files and folders that you select onto a data CD/DVD.

Simple iTMS Backup
A simple workflow to backup content in your iTunes music library that was purchased from the iTunes Music Store to another folder or volume, as well as onto a CD/DVD.

Simple File Backup
Another simple workflow designed to create an easy backup of files or folders to another folder or volume, as well as onto a CD/DVD.

What you’re looking for is Simple iTMS Backup but the other workflow might work too. There’s really no harm in tinkering with the automator workflow and who knows, you might figure something clever!

Anyhow, know of another method? Just leave a comment!
